Angle Between Hands
- Formula: |30H - (11/2)M| where H = hour, M = minute
- Shortcut: At H o'clock, minute hand is at 0, hour hand at 30H degrees
Gaining/Losing Time
- Clock gains 1 min in 65 min: It actually shows 66 min for 65 real min
- Clock loses 1 min in 59 min: It shows 58 min for 59 real min
Solved Examples
Q 1: Angle between hands at 3:30?
Solution: |30(3) - (11/2)(30)| = |90 - 165| = 75°
Q 2: A clock gains 2 min in 60 min. How much time does it gain in 24 hours?
Solution: In 60 real min, gains 2 min. In 24 hrs (1440 min), gains = (2/60) × 1440 = 48 minutes.
Mirror Image of Clock
The angle seen in mirror + actual angle = 360°. Or: mirror time = 12:00 - actual time.
